Huntsville: High visibility D.U.I. saturation patrols and safety checkpoints

News Release: Huntsville, Alabama - The Huntsville Police Department announced today that it has received a grant to crackdown on impaired driving. The campaign is organized by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and regionally administered by the North Alabama Traffic Safety Office (NATSO). This year’s campaign began in March and continues through September. The Huntsville Police Department’s D.U.I. Task Force supervisor, Sergeant Michael Johnson states, “The mission of the Department’s D.U.I. Task Force is to enforce the law and to educate the public on the dangers of drinking and driving.” The D.U.I. Task Force has consistently ranked as the number one D.U.I. enforcement squad in Alabama over the past fifteen years. The D.U.I. Task Force will set up high visibility saturation patrols and safety checkpoints throughout the city of Huntsville. Members of the Special Operations Division along with Uniformed Patrol Officers from each precinct will also participate by maintaining traffic enforcement activities at various NATSO “HOT SPOT” locations. High visibility D.U.I. saturation patrols and safety checkpoints will be conducted during this increased enforcement period throughout the City of Huntsville. Locations will include but not be limited to roadways such as Interstate 565, Memorial Parkway, Drake Avenue, Jordan Lane, University Drive, Bob Wallace Avenue, Bailey Cove Road, Andrew Jackson Way, Sparkman Drive, Pulaski Pike and Cecil Ashburn Drive.

Huntsville Police Announce “Hot Spot” Safety Checkpoints for Holiday DUI Enforcement

Huntsville Police Press Release - The Huntsville Police Department will be proactive in enforcing Alabama DUI and driving while impaired laws over the upcoming holiday weekend through January 1st, 2014. Thanks to grant enforcement money provided by the State’s Traffic Safety Office (ADECA), Huntsville Police Officers will be conducting traffic safety checkpoints to encourage everyone not to drink and drive.

Using crash data from the State of Alabama Critical Analysis Reporting Environment (C.A.R.E.) data program, the Huntsville Police Department’s DUI Traffic Task Force will be operating random checkpoints and specifically targeting locations which have been identified as “Hot Spots” because of high crashes and DUI related involvements.
